Photogrammetric production technology assessments & implementations

Dr. Keating owned and operated Kork Systems from 1981-1995. The Kork System provides a comprehensive system of stereo viewing hardware, software, processes, training and long-term maintenance programs to move companies into the new age of digital photogrammetry while allowing them to continue to use legacy equipment where effective.  Later manifestations included the use of GIS workstations, servers, network configurations and the use of new collection sensors.

Kork was purchased in 1995 by Autometric, Inc. who soon thereafter merged with Boeing's Space and Intelligence Systems.

Challenge

During the 1980s and 1990s, hundreds of photogrammetric mapping companies within the United States and around the world were constantly looking to improve map production throughput.  While operating as Kork Systems Inc., Dr. Keating evaluated hundreds of mapping operations, reviewed their systems, software and procedures, and developed and implemented upgrade strategies and tools to improve productivity.

Solution

Kork created universal stereo-photogrammetric digital mapping workstations that are used to construct vector base maps from stereo aerial photography. The company also developed digital orthophoto and data conversion software in addition to providing technical support and consulting services.

ClientS

Over 150 Photogrammetric Mapping Firms and National Mapping Agencies have used the Kork System to implement a digital production operation.

Results

Clients acquiring the Kork System moved their stereo production facilities from a paper based analog world to a complete digital workflow.

Kork has an installed base of stereo mapping workstations in 30 countries with 40% of the US mapping firms using Kork products and services. Systems specified and delivered included GIS systems from ESRI and Intergraph. The Egyptian Survey Authority used Dr. Keating exclusively to install a turn-key, integrated, networked, mapping and GIS (ESRI) system.
