Infotech (formerly VARGIS)
Unlike most imagery providers, Infotech has the flexibility to select the best overall solution for each project. They do not own aircraft, satellites, sensors or stereoplotters and are not biased toward any particular solution. Infotech evaluates the requirements of the client, and determines the most cost effective and technically sound solution available. They then choose production contractors with proven capability and experience for each task. Infotech manages all of the subcontract work, performs QA and takes full responsibility for project performance. As a result, their clients receive a cost effective and technically sound solution while avoiding many of the headaches and hazards that are normally associated with a large mapping procurement.
Challenge
Infotech needed to optimize their Quality Assurance (QA) process to maximize the probability of creating and delivering quality products to pre-defined standards. They needed a repeatable system that could be applied to multiple scenarios both for internal and subcontracted work.
Infotech demanded that self-checking quality control procedures be built into the production process to detect possible inconsistencies or failure. The reliability of each process step had to be confirmed before the next step in production was allowed to begin. With a dozen or more steps required to create orthophoto products, the process needed to be flexible yet be kept as straighforward as possible.
Solution
Infotech contracted with Lucerne International as early as 1996 to develop their QA/QC program. Lucerne streamlined Infotech processes and delivered a documented workflow that could be used both internally and by subcontractors.
Lucerne has become an integral part of the Infotech QA/QC team; lending expertise for many statewide mapping programs. Dr. Terry Keating has developed state-specific quality plans for many Infotech projects and directs the quality assurance activities of surveys, aerotriangulation and digital orthophotos.

Infotech is an industry leader in managing the acquisition, quality assurance and delivery of digital orthoimagery to government and commercial clients. Since 1995, Infotech has contracted for the production of digital hundreds of thousands of square miles of orthoimages nationwide.
Results
Due to the extra level of experienced project management and quality assurance that Infotech and Lucerne offers, customers enjoy the benefits of a first delivery acceptance rate of over 98%.
